• International Master Tom O'Donnell won the George Beals Open on the Canada Day weekend in Halifax.
• Tyler Reddy won the Nova Scotia Open June 22-24, 2001 on tie break over Jason Kenney with 3.5 points out of 5, and will play as the Nova Scotia Champion at the Canadian Open this summer.
• John Klapstein won the Halifax Summer Tornado on June 23, 2001.
• A successful Halifax Spring Tornado occured on April 14, 2001.
• Steve Saunders placed second in the Canadian Correspondence Chess Association's 2000 Canadian E-mail Championship.
• Justin Gulati won Lunenburg County Open on April 20, 21, 22, 2001 in Bridgewater. Jason Mercer won the Under 1700 division.
• Alvah Mayo won the Nova Scotia Open May 19, 20, 21, 2001 in Port Hawksbury.
• Gilbert Bernard successfully defended his title at the Atlantic Native Closed Chess Championships at Waycobah First Nation On March 10 and 11, 2001 with a 4 1/2 out of 5 score.
• Andrew Dunphy, John Li and Mathieu T'ien were the winnders at the 6th Children's chess tournament at the Alderney Gate Library in Dartmouth on March 10, 2001.
• Jason Kenney won the Bluenose Chess Club Open Championship on February 18, 2001 with an impressive 5 straight wins.

• Halifax Labour Day Open August 31 to September 3, in Halifax was won by young Kyle Johnson of New Brunswick.
• Unama'ki Open August 4-6, 2001 was won by the International Master Tom O'Donnell.
• The Halifax Tornado on January 27, 2001 resulted in a three way tie for first place - Urquhart, Mayo and Wysocki.
