The 2006 Nova Scotia Closed Chess Championship has now been completed and the winner is………. a tie between Jason Kenney and Gary Ng.  Congratulations are extended to both Jason and Gary who both had an excellent tournament and finished with a 4.5 / 5.0 result.  They each had one draw, which was with each other.  The annual Nova Scotia Chess Championship trophy will be engraved with both their names as “co-champions”.  A tie-breaking system / playoff was not required to decide which player would receive the “entry fee to the Canadian Closed” for their prize as Gary Ng advised that he was not able to attend the Canadian Closed this year.  As a result, the NS Chess Association will pay the $300 entry fee for Jason Kenney to attend the Canadian Closed, which will be held in Toronto on August 18-27, 2006.

Alvah Mayo finished in third spot with a 3.0 / 5.0 result.

I want to thank all of the players who participated in the 2006 championship.  Everyone appeared to have a “fighting spirit” as there were only three draws in the entire tournament and they were full length games.

The final cross-table is provided below.  The game scores for this tournament will be posted on the NSChess web site.
