Kim Tufts [an169@chebucto.ns.ca] reports that
Sunday March 23, 1997's "kids tournaments were won by Igor Geshelin with second going to
Michael Atlin of Truro. Igor got himself "promoted" by winning a CFC
membership.
John Klapstein won the juniors event, surviving a first round scare by Anthony Federico who was playing in his first CFC event ever. Tyler Reddy finished 2nd.
All the kids received some kind of chess prize as I raided my stash of old Chess Life's and Chess Monthly, and I added some chess books from a balooning library. I'd encourage all players to divest themselves of unwanted materials to kids who will really profit from them...and I now have more storage space to boot!

A mini-kids mini tournament at Dalhousie University's Student Union
Building's Cafeteria Sunday, March 9, 1996 attracted 10 kids, "most
potential grade champions".
Kim Tufts (an169@chebucto.ns.ca) writes "Ian Mahar prevailed in a 3 way tie over Robin Thorsen and Tristan deBoer, both from Truro, in the blitz playoff. Robin's play was particularly striking considering she's only in grade 3 and seems to have improved a great deal from last year. Beware of little girls who place stuffed animals on the playing table seems to be good advice, as Ian found out in their first round game!"
