South Coast of Newfoundland

Four weeks along the South Coast of Newfoundland aboard the “Concertina” from mid-July to mid-August 2006.

Concertina in Lunenburg The schooner “Concertina” built in 1963 is a 28’ 10” vessel designed by Murray Peterson. In 2000 she became a member of the Nova Scotia Schooner Association fleet.
Concertina in Rencontre Bay She has a Yanmar diesel that saw frequent service during this trip and was especially helpful in allowing us to make it into and out of the fjord-like bays along this stretch of coast (as well as the Great Bras d’Or entrance).
Peter Moore at the helm Three of us comprised the ship’s crew. Peter Moore, who hails from Pawlet, Vermont joined us for the first portion of the trip.
John Zuck at the helm John Zuck, from Halifax, a frequent shipmate aboard the schooner, is a crafty crib champion when not tending to ship handling, navigation and expert galley duty.
Ed Porter Ed Porter hails from Lunenburg where he spends his spare time looking after the maintenance of his 43-year-old vessel. Ed is at the helm as the schooner sails away from Henry Fuller’s Cape Breton Boatyard in Baddeck at the beginning of this cruise.
