Rated tournaments are played with a chess clock. A chess clock is a device for measuring the time you and your opponent spend thinking between moves. Chess clocks are usually available at tournaments Chess clocks ensure a fair use of time. If you have a chess clock or chess set, bring it to the tournament. There's normally enough clocks available if you don't have one.
You will be required to record the moves in your game as it is played using a chess notation. Nearly any chess book will explain chess notation to you.
Above all, have fun!
