Events in the Orchid Calendar
For most orchid societies the major event of the year is their annual orchid show. It is their opportunity to share their hobby with the general public. Other local societies and vendors are invited to put up a display of their best flowers. The shows are ribbon judged and the best flowering plants are selected for judging against the best of their kind from records for the whole of Canada and the USA. The best of these receive awards from the American Orchid Society.
Once a year the COC joins a member society at their annual show to hold the COC Annual Meeting. Representatives of the societies come together with the COC Executive to discuss issues of common interest. A variety of extra events, such as guest lectures, a banquet and auction are also held.
