This call is made not just to Simon, Andrew, James, and John, however, but also to us. Jesus' pronouncement and call, his mission and our discipleship, are not time-bound. Today remains the time of fulfillment: now we are the persons called to collaborate with Jesus to complete his mission. The call to repentance delivered by Jonah to the people of Nineveh demanded they make a radical change in their manner of living.  Jesus makes the same demand: "Repent, and believe in the good news."  The Jewish, Roman, and Christian annual calendars all date from founding events: Jewish from the Exodus, Roman from Romulus and Remus, and Christian from Jesus.  By contrast, the kingdom of God and its "time of fulfillment" are not tied to human configuration or chronological time; they are the timeless reality of God's saving presence. Archbishop Mancini to Visit Our Parish This Sunday  It is a joy to have Archbishop Anthony Mancini among us to preside at the 8:45 and 11:15am Masses this Sunday.   A reception will be held in the parish hall between the Masses from 10 – 11am.  The Archbishop will take a brief opportunity to speak directly with the children of the catechetics program at 10am.  Join us for this special occasion, celebrate Mass and meet Archbishop Mancini at the reception.   WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY January 18-25th, 2012  Join us for a prayer service entitled: "We Shall All Be Changed"  at Immaculate Conception Church this Sunday evening, January 22 at 7pm.  The material for the service was prepared by the Christian churches in Poland focusing on a theme that is concerned with the transformative power of faith in Christ.   How well the history of Poland has been marked by a series of defeats and victories!  The reflection will be offered by Rev. Frances Drolet-Smith, pastor of St. Alban Church.  Come and join us for prayer and fellowship.   Grief Support Group Meets this Wednesday at 7pm The Grief Support Group meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7pm in the parish office.  If you know someone who would appreciate this support and sincere compassion, please invite them to come.  Of course you would be more than welcome to accompany them.  Call Sr. Cecelia at the office for information.   Sr. Norma Heffernan Presents the 7 Week Series: The Passion and Resurrection Narratives   Sr. Heffernan has offered these sessions on various scripture based themes over the last few years.  They are well received.  We are able to accommodate 10 or 12 people.  The series, which begins on February 9, is held on Thursday mornings from 10:15 to 11:45 in the parish office.  Call the office to register.     New Revised Roman Missal Many of you are becoming well accustomed to the use of the new Revised Roman Missal.  It has been an adjustment for all of us.  Continue to refer to the Prayer Guide found in the pew. It is a good resource.  Also, the Celebrate in Song hymn book contains not only the revised prayers and responses, but the new musical settings for the Gloria, Holy Holy, and Memorial Acclamation.  The Gloria, which was introduced at the Christmas Masses is found at number 2.2.  You may want to follow that in the book as the text has changed.  To a lesser extent the Holy Holy has revisions.  It is found at number 2.3. It does seem that many of you are acclimatizing to the new settings happily and singing along with the choir.  Keep it up.  Revised Roman Missal Session 2 Saturday, February 4 at 9:30am At the end of November, on the Saturday before the 1st Sunday of Advent, in anticipation of the changes to the Roman Missal (formerly termed Sacramentary), many of you gathered to hear Fr. Jim speak on those changes, the reasons for them and the impact they are expected to have.  Throughout the season of Advent and Christmas we have experienced the changes directly in our prayers, responses, postures and music.  We have been challenged at times to not simply rely on memory.  Sometimes we have felt awkward with the new translations.  Our slight discomfort has occasionally been met with humour.  At any rate, on Saturday February 4 you are encouraged to attend a follow up session to be presented by Fr. Randy Doucette, Pastor of St. Thomas More Parish.  Fr. Doucette will speak here in our church and continue the dialogue on why these changes are important as well as share his observations and experiences.  Liturgical Ministers will find this session thought provoking in terms of their understanding of ministry, though of course all parishioners are encouraged to attend.   Parish Directory Available Thursday January 26 We are happy to report that the Parish Directory will be available for those who had their photo taken.  Again, thank you for your patience and understanding for the delay.  Pick it up at the parish or office or see a member of the pastoral staff after Mass next Sunday.   Marriage Preparation Course For those couples contemplating marriage during the year, there is a preparation program on Friday and Saturday, April 13 and 14 . Please register by calling or emailing the parish office as we need to know the numbers of participants.   Saint Peter Drama Group To Present The Musical GODSPELL St. Peter Drama Group announces their production of the musical Godspell slated for a run in early May.  You are invited to be a part of this project which will enter rehearsal phase soon.  Actors, band members, costumers and production support people are all welcome. Contact Greg at the office with questions.    Religious Education Note Catechetical Formation Classes continue at the usual times.  Primary level to Grade 6 on Sunday morning at 10 o’clock.  EDGE Group and Confirmation Classes continue to meet at 5:30pm on Sunday afternoon. This Sunday, Archbishop Mancini will speak to an assembly of the students in the parish hall at 10am before their classes.  (see article above)   Parking for the Disabled Parishioners are asked to respect the need for parking for the disabled near the east entrance to the church.  Fortunately we are able to offer parishioners a ramp to access the church at the entrance next to the tabernacle area.  There are four parking spaces assigned for use by parishioners with mobility difficulties in the laneway on the east side of the church.  On a related note, you may be aware that fundraising began in the fall to replace the existing doors with an electric-operated wheelchair accessible door system.    Prayer Line We remind you that we have an active Prayer Line network in the parish.  If you have a friend or family member who is seriously ill contact the office at ext 222 and leave a name.   Children’s and Adult Choirs Choir rehearsals continue on Wednesday at their usual times, that is 4pm for children and 7:30pm for adults.   If you lean toward musical interests, you should consider joining one of our choirs.   New members are welcome.  Call Greg at the office for information.   Lost and Found Forget your gloves?  An umbrella perhaps?  Lose your glasses?  Check the Lost and Found in the closet to the east of the main entrance.   Senior’s Group The Senior’s Group will have their next event on Mon., Feb. 6.   Poinsettia Plants Parishioners who offered a poinsettia in memory of a loved one to adorn the sanctuary are welcome to retrieve their plant and take it home if they like.  These beautiful flowers were really the ‘icing on the cake’ for our worship space during our Christmas season celebrations!  Thank you again.   Parish Administration items Address Changes In preparation for Income Tax Receipt mail-outs, please ensure that the parish office has your correct mailing address. If you have moved in the past year please e-mail or call Sherri at the office, or write your name and new address on your parish envelope or a piece of paper and drop it in the collection basket. Pre-Authorized Payment Contributors After seven years we have used up the old envelopes from 2004. Therefore your special collection envelopes for 2012 will be mailed out quarterly directly from the printing company that produces the regular envelopes. If you have any questions or concerns please call Sherri at the office.   St. Vincent de Paul Please remember your contributions of non perishable food items for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  Your thoughtfulness enables the Society to continue the work of feeding those who struggle to make ends meet.  Daily, the members of the Society bring food to those in need.  Your contributions are necessary to make this work.  You may bring food to church and leave it in the basket in the foyer or drop it off at the office during regular office hours.   Churchill Academy to Offer an Eight Week After School Program developed to meet the needs of students who are not achieving their potential due to reading challenges.
