4th Sunday of Ordinary Time - January 29, 2012
The people in the gospel twice responded to Jesus as one with authority: when he taught them and when he cast out the "unclean spirit." What was this authority? Both in word and deed Jesus touched people in their need. The people were "astonished" and "amazed" because Jesus was saying and doing something new. He was revealing God's very presence and life-- he is "the Holy One of God" among them. And among us. Moses was a prophet who spoke God's word with authority; now Jesus is the One who God raises up with authority-- not just a prophet, but as the Holy One of God. Thinking of evil in terms of demons and devils keeps us at arm's length. The evil in our world that we must confront is more personal and immediate: violence, poverty, discrimination and the like.
New Revised Roman Missal
Many of you are becoming well accustomed to the use of the new Revised Roman Missal. It has been an adjustment for all of us. Continue to refer to the Prayer Guide found in the pew.
Revised Roman Missal Session 2
Saturday, February 4 at 9:30am
Next Saturday we encourage you to attend a session offered by
Fr. Randy Doucette
Pastor of St. Thomas More Parish
Fr. Doucette will speak here in our church and continue the dialogue on the implementation of the changes to the Roman Missal (formerly Sacramentary). He will share his observations and insight in addition to helping us with the meanings and context. Liturgical ministers will find this session valuable in terms of improving their understanding of ministry. Of course, all parishioners are encouraged to attend as we absorb these changes and make them part of our regular practice.
Archbishop Mancini’s Visit
It was a joy to have Archbishop Anthony Mancini among us to preside at the 8:45 and 11:15am Masses last Sunday. Many of you were pleased to meet the Bishop at the reception held between the Masses. The Archbishop offered the homily at each Mass and shared thought provoking ideas about our local Church, where we have been, where we are now and where we are to go in the future. He reiterated his desire for the transformative embrace of the New Evangelization as proposed by Pope Benedict. Pray for him as he carries out the difficult mission of serving God’s people at this time when the Church faces many challenges.
Sr. Norma Heffernan Presents the 7 Week Series:
The Passion and Resurrection

Sr. Heffernan has offered these sessions on various scripture based themes over the last few years. They are well received. We are able to accommodate 10 or 12 people. The series, which begins on February 9, is held on Thursday mornings from 10:15 to 11:45 in the parish office. Call the office to register.

We are happy to report that the Parish Directory is available for those who had their photo taken. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding for the delay. Pick it up at the parish office during regular office hours or they are available in the hallway behind the tapestry after Mass.
RCIA & the Rite of Acceptance
Next Sunday, Feb. 5 at the 11:15am Mass,
we will gather to celebrate the acceptance of
Jackie Bone, Hayley Bone, Nikki Brown and Gayle Carolan

It is a formal period of time when the catechumens and candidates express their desire to join the Church, and the Church accepts their intention to respond to God's call to follow in the way of Christ. They will be Baptized at the Easter Vigil. Also we have a Candidate, Phillip Henneberry, who will come into full communion with the Church. Furthermore,
Ashley Henneberry and Jessica Melady
will complete their initiation. Please pray for them.
