3rd Sunday of Lent - March 11, 2012
What a mess Jesus made! He spilled coins, overturned tables, and even destroyed the most important institution in all of Israel—the temple as God's dwelling place. He declared that the place of God's presence among people was no longer a building but the "temple of his body." This "temple of his body" would be destroyed by enemies but then raised up to new life dwelling among us—and within us who are now the Body of Christ. What a new creation God made! Only the power of God could build a new and permanent temple—the risen Body of Christ. We proclaim Christ crucified because in the seeming foolishness of his death we know the wisdom and strength of the God of life. Jesus destroyed exaggerated emphasis on the religious structures of Israel. Today do we ourselves still look for God too much only in religious structures (church buildings, formal worship services, traditional prayers)? If Christ destroyed all this, would there be faith and life left?
F.O.O.D. Project
This weekend is our committed weekend to provide meals for Feeding Others Of Dartmouth. Your compassionate help has been appreciated by the many in our community who benefit from this service.
Development & Peace
Next Sunday is the second collection for D&P.
Envelopes were included with the regular Sunday collection package; additional ones are available at the entrances to the church.
In Zambia, Chisumpa Moono and many other small-scale farmers have no legally recognized land titles even though the land has been handed down informally from generation to generation. The Zambia Land Alliance has set up district-level land alliances to promote and protect the rights of the farmers. Political leaders have now made land a key development issue.
Our generosity during Share Lent is a sign of our compassion and solidarity with our sisters and brothers in the Global South.
Special Lenten Event - Solidarity Meal – March 27
Mark your calendar. On Tuesday, March 27, at 5:30pm you are invited to a special D&P event, planned in partnership with our Liturgy Committee. That evening we will gather in the Parish Hall for a Solidarity (Poverty) Meal followed by a Liturgy of the Word with the theme of Social Justice which will include a presentation by D&P on their experiences helping to upraise the landless who live precariously. This event will be appropriate for all ages and families are encouraged to attend. See more details in an upcoming bulletin.
Religious Education Notes
Due to the March Break there will be no Religious Education classes this Sunday or next for Primary to Grade 6, EDGE and Confirmation.
The Enrollment Rite for the Candidates who are preparing for First Communion will take place at the 8:45 Mass on Sunday, March 25 followed by an information session for parents with Sister Cecelia

Lenten Sacrament of Reconciliation
On Thursday March 22 at 7pm we will gather here at St. Peter Church with members of neighbouring parishes for our Lenten Sacrament of Reconciliation service.
Other services in our region will be at Blessed Pope John XXIII on Wednesday, March 28, and St. Anselm on Thursday, March 29.
LITURGICAL NOTES
Music
You may have noticed the introduction of a new setting of the ‘Lamb of God’. It is found in the new Celebrate in Song hymn book at number 2.6 as part of the musical setting for Mass written by Geoffrey S. Angeles. Upon the introduction of the new Mass Setting at the beginning of Advent, it was felt that we could wait until Lent to intro the Lamb of God given that there was already much newness. As it happens, the Lamb of God is one of our sung prayers for which the text was not revised. Keep singing! The Holy Holy, Memorial Acclamation and Great Amen are becoming more familiar with every Sunday celebration. Of course we don’t sing the Gloria during Lent, but will enjoy its return during the Holy Triduum.
Lay Ministers
The new schedules (March 11, 2012) have been sent by email. A few copies have been printed and placed in the usual folder in the sacristy. Thank you for your continued service and `welcome’ to new liturgical ministers.
Sign-up sheets for the Holy Triduum services are now available
in the sacristy.
BIRTHRIGHT: CWL Collecting Baby Clothing
The Catholic Women’s League thanks all who contributed to the appeal to collect baby clothing in aid of BIRTHRIGHT. Parishioners were very generous with their infant related gifts and have shown their concern for women who are in need of the services of BIRTHRIGHT. All BIRTHRIGHT services are free, absolutely confidential and available to any woman regardless of age, race, creed, economic or marital status.
St. Vincent de Paul
Please remember your contributions of non perishable food items for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Your thoughtfulness enables the Society to continue the work of feeding those who struggle to make ends meet. Daily, the members of the Society bring food to those in need. Your contributions are necessary to make this work. You may bring food to church and leave it in the basket in the foyer or drop it off at the office during regular office hours.
Parking for the Disabled
Parishioners are asked to respect the need for parking for the disabled near the east entrance to the church. Fortunately we are able to offer parishioners a ramp to access the church at the entrance next to the tabernacle area. There are four parking spaces assigned for use by parishioners with mobility difficulties in the laneway on the east side of the church. On a related note, you may be aware that fundraising began in the fall to replace the existing doors with an electric-operated wheelchair accessible door system.
The Knights of Columbus are pleased to have provided parishioners with chili dinners for take-out last weekend. Next time they will do their best to avoid running out!!
Grief Support Group
Join us for prayer, support and friendship. The Grief Support Group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7pm. Contact Sister Cecelia.
Knights of Columbus Scholarship
Applications for scholarships valued at $1,000 are invited for the annual Simon J. Khattar Scholarship and are being accepted through March 16. Applicants must be Catholic residents of Nova Scotia who will complete Nova Scotia Grade XII in 2012, or who are attending first year University, College, or Community College beyond the secondary level. Applications and additional information may be picked up at the office. Contact Joe Beaton at 462-4028 or beatonmj@yahoo.com
