5th Sunday of Lent - March 25, 2012
The challenge of this Gospel is to serve others, lose one's life, and die. All this, to gain new life. Disciples do this in imitation of Jesus. Discipleship therefore, means a lifelong growing into dying and rising. Learning to serve, we understand what losing our life means. Losing our life, we understand what dying means. Dying, we receive the fruit: fullness of life and a share in Christ's glorification. What Jeremiah anticipates ("the days are surely coming") Jesus fulfills ("Now is the time"). What is anticipated and fulfilled? A new covenant with all people, a new people now drawn to Jesus himself. In our society people often strive to gain glory (self-aggrandizement) for themselves, even if it means hurting others. Followers of Jesus strive to gain glory too. But their glory is a free gift of God granted to those who serve others by dying to self.
Development & Peace
Special Event This Tuesday
– Solidarity (Poverty) Meal –
Tuesday, March 27
This Tuesday you are invited to a special D&P event, planned in partnership with our Liturgy Committee. That evening we will gather in the Parish Hall at 5:30pm for a Solidarity (Poverty) Meal followed by a Liturgy of the Word with the theme of Social Justice which will include a presentation by D&P on their experiences helping to upraise the landless who live precariously.
We hope to raise awareness in some small measure of the difficulties experienced by people who live with much less than ourselves. We particularly encourage families to attend. The presentation will be appropriate for all ages.
Third Collection for D&P Next Sunday
Next Sunday is our third collection for D&P. Envelopes were included with the regular Sunday collection package; additional ones are available at the entrances to the church.
Your generosity during Share Lent is a sign of your compassion and solidarity with our sisters and brothers in areas of the world where people struggle under many hardships to create a better life for themselves and their families.

LITURGICAL NOTES
The Revised Roman Missal and Celebrate in Song
We are very pleased with our transition to the renewed text of the Revised Roman Missal. We encourage you to continue using the prayer cards when necessary during our celebrations.
You have noticed the inclusion of new hymn settings in the Celebrate in Song book. The choir is using many of these new songs and encourages you to be engaged with their beautiful texts and melodies. The hymn songs used during Communion have easily sung refrains which we hope you will sing while in procession to receive. The action of singing helps unify the community at that time.
Sign-up sheets for the Holy Triduum services are now available
in the sacristy.

Exterior Door Refinishing Continues
You have noticed over the past couple months the removal, refinishing and reinstallation of several of the exterior sets of doors. The process continues with the removal of the set at the end of the laneway on the southwest side of the church.
Fundraising continues for the automated electric wheelchair accessible doors to be installed on the northeast side near the tabernacle. We are grateful to the committed team that continues to raise funds and awareness.
The parish is also thankful for the generous donation of $1000 to this cause received from the Catholic Women’s League.

Please remember your contributions of non perishable food items for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. You may bring food to church and leave it in the basket in the foyer or drop it off at the office during regular office hours.
