2nd Sunday of Easter - April 15, 2012
In face of Thomas's obstinate unbelief, Jesus is remarkably serene and understanding when he returns a week later and meets Thomas where he is. Jesus incarnates the Peace with which he greets the disciples and manifests forgiveness in his encounter with Thomas. He sends disciples forth with firsthand experience of the ministry with which he entrusts them: granting forgiveness and spreading peace. The second reading spells out in more detail what believing in the risen Jesus enables us to do: love God and others, obey God's commandments, and conquer the world. Anyone living in family or community knows the experience of forgiveness both given and received. They also know the peace such forgiveness engenders.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
WELCOME TO OUR FAITH COMMUNITY!
At the Easter Vigil last Saturday night, Nikki Brown and Gayle Carolan were welcomed into the Church through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. As well, Philip Henneberry and Jessica Melady made their profession of faith, were confirmed as Roman Catholics and received the Eucharist. Ashley Henneberry completed her initiation as a Roman Catholic with them. May the Lord bless them on this Easter Day and always. Thanks to the RCIA team under the leadership of Sister Cecelia for their teaching and support throughout the year.
Sacrament of Marriage
ST PETER’S MARRIAGE PREPARATION PROGRAM
Thanks to all who were involved with the successful Marriage Preparation Program this weekend. Eight couples from the parish shared their wisdom, insight and experiences with those intending to enter into this Sacrament, and by all accounts it was successful. We are happy to offer this worthy program to couples in our parish intending to enter the Sacrament of Marriage.
Sixteen couples preparing for marriage benefitted from the program. Keep them in your prayers as they take this important step in their lives.
Religious Education Notes
Religious Education classes resume at their usual times this Sunday.
Development & Peace
The theme for this year’s Share Lent campaign was,
“Help A Just World Take Root”
D&P and its partners are involved in many parts of the world and some of the communities your donations have assisted include 1000 rice-farming families in the Vatovay Fitovinary region of Madagascar, the Afro-Colombia community in the Choco Region of Colombia and the Village of Prey Veng in Cambodia.
Your generosity you shared during Lent is a great sign of the compassion you have and solidarity you feel with our sisters and brothers in areas of the world where people struggle under many hardships to create a better life for themselves and their families.
Baby Changing Table
A baby change table has been installed in the washroom off the hallway behind the tapestry.
Impact Halifax
Catholic Christian Outreach will bring 60 young missionaries to Halifax for 14 weeks this summer. They will operate in teams of four-six persons per parish. One team will be connected with our parishes, (St. Peter and Immaculate Conception.) One missionary, Maria Arsenault, a member of our parish has raised the funds needed to participate. There are others, however, who have not been able to do so. (Each participant needs to raise $3,100.00 to cover costs of lodging, food, etc). If you would like to help support a CCO member take part in Impact Halifax, any contribution would be gladly accepted. Please find a copy of Maria’s letter and a donation form at the church entrances. I endorse this effort and look forward to the young people being with us this summer. Fr. Jim

There are no choir rehearsals this week. Stay tuned. In the meantime, if you are a musician, or lean toward musical ventures, please consider getting involved with our music ministry which welcomes new singers and instrumentalists.
