Before he ascended “and sat down at the right hand of God," Jesus entrusted his saving mission to "proclaim the good news" to the disciples. When the gospel is effectively preached by "those who believe," it is accompanied by signs. What signs accompany believers today? This reading explicitly spells out the virtues necessary for one to "preach the gospel" effectively: humility, gentleness, patience, love. It also shows us the signs in the community of effective preaching: unity, peace, building up the Body of Christ, knowledge. Normally when someone leaves us, we experience a profound sense of absence. In the ascension, Jesus leaves but actually remains present within us as we take up his mission to preach the gospel.
Farewell Celebration
for Sister Cecelia Sacca
Join us for Mass next Saturday, May 26 at 5pm to celebrate with Sister Cecelia as she prepares to depart from our midst at the end of the month. After Mass we will gather in the Parish Hall for refreshments and a time when we can offer good wishes in a personable setting.
Recently, Cecelia announced that she has accepted an invitation by her Superior to serve her community
in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
It is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell. Cecelia accepted the position of Pastoral Associate here at St. Peter in 2008. She has had a large impact on our parish and will be missed. Her ministry to the sick, aged and dying goes to the core of her Christian values. She has brought together seniors for prayer and social times that were enjoyed by many, initiated the prayer line and has been involved with the Confirmation class as catechist. As well, Cecelia initiated the Grief Support Group, has been a faithful member of the Catholic Women’s League, prepared couples and families for the baptism of their children, not to mention cradling and fulfilling our RCIA program. She also has sat on the Board of Directors of Chalice, the Catholic organization that serves the poor in distant lands.
Sister Cecelia, go with the prayers and good wishes of our faith community!
