Pentecost Sunday - May 27, 2012

Jesus breathes the Holy Spirit into the disciples and by doing so he re-creates them. The life-giving breath poured forth at the dawn of creation is now the Spirit-breath, the very indwelling of God. Only because of this divine indwelling do we have the power to forgive and thus continue Jesus' saving mission. We are the incarnation of the risen Lord in our world today. We are re-created by the Holy Spirit. The sign of re-creation is forgiveness. Saint Paul identifies the fruits of being re-created by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These fruits are Life-giving and oppose the works of the flesh Paul describes. This festival is a celebration of the Holy Spirit re-creating us into God's pride and joy.

Farewell to

 Sister Cecelia Sacca

Sister Cecelia leaves our midst this week as she takes up new  ministry with her community in Wellesley, Massachusetts.  She will be missed by all of us, but especially those whom she served directly, often the aged, ailing or dying.  After the 5pm Saturday Mass we have the opportunity to gather in the school gym to offer her good wishes.

It is with mixed emotions that we bid Cecelia farewell.

Cecelia accepted the position of Pastoral Associate here

at St. Peter in 2008.  She has had a large impact

on our parish and will be missed.

Sister Cecelia, go with the prayers and good wishes

of our faith community!

Fr. Craig Cameron to Celebrate Mass

with us this Sunday Morning

Father Craig Cameron was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Halifax – Yarmouth last Saturday at St. Mary Cathedral Basilica.  Fr. Craig served here in our parish during his intern year,  He is with us this Sunday morning at the 9:30 Mass to preside after which we will gather in the school gym for a reception.  Please remember Craig in your prayers.

Development & Peace:

a ‘Thank You’ to

the Parishioners of St Peter Parish

The Share Lent collection for D&P amounted to $12,740.78.  The parishioners of St. Peter continue to show their very generous support of D&P even in these difficult economic times.  You are truly ‘Helping a Just World Take Root”.  This unselfish participation in assisting the Global South is now particularly important as the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has significantly reduced their contribution to D&P.  This year it will be cut from $8 to $2.9 million and will remain at this level for five years.  D&P has initiated a petition campaign requesting reinstatement of this funding.  A petition can be found at the main entrance to the church.  Please sign it. It will be presented to our MP Robert Chisolm, with a request that it be introduced in the House of Commons.  Only 25 signatures are required for presentation in the House, however, the more signatories the better.
