The Most Holy Trinity - June 3, 2012

Who are the "nations" to whom Jesus sends us? All the countries of the world, to be sure. But also the close-to-hand "nations" of our own families, coworkers, friends, everyone who is part of our lives. What are we sent to do? Jesus has passed on to us his power to gather all human beings into the loving embrace of the Trinity. Because of baptism, our triune God dwells within each of us, enabling us to embody God's presence among the "nations." We are the visible sign of Jesus' promise: "I am with you always." God's life in us is not something abstract but a relationship of children to our "Abba, Father." This is the work and gift of the Spirit of God through Christ. The Trinity is not just a dogma but an indwelling presence of three Persons who continually create, save, and sustain us and all of creation.

A Parting Message from Sister Cecelia

According to the

Constitution of the Sisters of Charity:

“We express our love of God through service,

We enter more deeply into the paschal mystery

and are built up in love

by those to whom we minister.”

In response to that principle, I first came to St. Peter Parish four years ago.  It surely proved for the good of my soul at least.  You have ministered well.  Another operating principle when a sister is on her best behaviour – is to see the will of God through a process of…”open and trustful dialogue to respond faithfully to God’s call to proclaim the kingdom wherever we are sent.”  That has happened to me recently, and it accounts for my acceptance of a new assignment this coming July in Wellesley, Massachusetts.  I certainly will carry you all in prayer with a thankful heart for all the blessings you have been to me!  If you still believe in snail-mail my address is:

Mt. St. Vincent

125 Oakland St.

Wellesley Hills, MA

02481-5338

God bless!  Sister Cecelia

Feed Others Of Dartmouth

Next weekend is our next committed weekend to feed others of Dartmouth.  As you know, our parish supplies and serves meals on the second weekend of each month.  This worthy outreach project could not happen without your ongoing support.  Sign-up sheets are posted at the main entrance where someone from Parish Outreach is on hand to guide you in the ways to serve.  Thank you.

Our Appreciation to John MacKinnon

We extend gratitude to John MacKinnon for his many years of service as chair of the Development & Peace Committee.  John has worked assiduously on behalf of D&P and has been a great example of Christian charity and outreach to the disadvantaged in the Global South here in our midst.  Through his steadfastness the work of D&P has maintained a high profile here in our parish, and we have been given an awareness of the annual Fall Action and Share Lent campaigns.  In fact our parish is a leading contributor in our diocese.  Thank you John for the work you have done to help relieve the suffering of the poor while empowering their efforts to raise their living standards.

John will continue to serve on the committee which will be chaired by Marian Issekutz.  Please see related article below.

Development & Peace:

a ‘Thank You’ to

the Parishioners of St. Peter Parish

The Share Lent collection for D&P amounted to $12,740.78.  The parishioners of St. Peter continue to show their very generous support of D&P even in these difficult economic times.  You are truly ‘Helping a Just World Take Root”.  This unselfish participation in assisting the Global South is now particularly important as the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has significantly reduced their contribution to D&P.  This year it will be cut from $8 to $2.9 million and will remain at this level for five years.  D&P has initiated a petition campaign requesting reinstatement of this funding.  A petition can be found at the main entrance to the church.  Please sign it. It will be presented to our MP Robert Chisolm, with a request that it be introduced in the House of Commons.  Only 25 signatures are required for presentation in the House, however, the more signatories the better.

Parish Finances (January – April)

The parish finance committee met recently

to discuss financial results for January - April.

Collections ...................$127,382.02

Total Revenue .............$156,556.28

Total expenses ............$181,775.53

Net Income................. - $25,219.25

In addition to the above, a bequest has been received and  has been added to our parish's funds on deposit with the diocese.
