19th Sunday of Ordinary Time - August 12, 2012
Sometimes what we claim to know does not square up with reality. The Jews in the Gospel think they know Jesus' origins ("the son of Joseph") and, therefore, what he is and is not capable of doing. He commands them to "stop complaining"—to stop limiting what they know. Only by opening themselves to be "taught by God" can they come to see who Jesus really is ("the living bread. . . from heaven"). Only with this deeper knowledge can they receive the greatest gift he offers—himself, the "living bread" who brings us to "live forever." The miraculous provision of bread in the wilderness sustains Elijah's physical life for the journey to Horeb, the mountain of God (1st reading). Jesus offers to his disciples the food of his teaching as well as his own flesh for the journey to eternal life. When we love another, we open ourselves to the mystery of who that person is. In this Gospel Jesus invites us to love him, to encounter the mystery of who he is: the "living bread" who brings us to "live forever."
A Parting Message
From The IMPACT Team
"Thank you again for welcoming the IMPACT team to St. Peter Parish! On Tuesday evenings we had 15 or so parishioners coming out to the Faith Study and over 150 people from the area gathered each Thursday at the CORNERSTONES at St Agnes. It was amazing to see so many people growing deeper in their faith and being on fire for the New Evangelization. Please stay posted for more Discovery Faith Studies happening in the fall."
We have much to be thankful for in our parish. This summer we have been blessed by the presence of the IMPACT Team.
As they leave our midst we wish them well and offer prayers for safe journeys. Maria, Dorianne, Kailey, Matt and Maria, thank you for the gifts you have shared with us.

Our parish continues to accept responsibility to provide meals for the patrons of Margaret House on the second weekend of each month. Please keep the needs of those who have difficulty providing for themselves foremost in your mind.
RCIA
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process used when adults wish to be baptized into the Roman Catholic faith. Through this process candidates participate in a period of faith formation and education culminating in the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist – at Easter. At the same time, we welcome those who have been baptized in another Christian faith tradition and wish to join us in communion, as well as those who were baptized as Roman Catholics but were not catechized as children. Sessions will begin in the fall. Please call the office and leave your name.

Automated Door Fund
We are pleased to report that to date, $7,941.56 has been raised to install the automated door at the northeast entrance. Big thanks go to those who have worked assiduously to promote the replacement of the doors in that location to make entry and exit into our worship space effortless for those who struggle with challenges to mobility. Thanks to all who have supported their fundraising activities. We will apprise you of their progress in the fall as we get closer to realizing the goal.
St. Vincent de Paul
Please remember your contributions of non perishable food items for the St. Vincent de Paul Society during the summer months. Your thoughtfulness enables the Society to continue the work of feeding those who struggle to make ends meet. Daily, the members of the Society bring food to those in need. Your contributions are necessary to make this work. You may bring food to church and leave it in the basket in the foyer or drop it off at the office during regular office hours.
Note: no noon Mass celebrated on Wednesday, August 15 here in our parish
due to the Feast Day Celebrations on the occasion of Assumption of the Virgin Mary this Wednesday, we will not celebrate the noon Mass here in our parish.
Children’s and Adult Choirs
Are you musical? Consider becoming part of our Music Ministry in the fall. Singers and instrumentalists are always welcome. Choir members for the Sunday 11:15am and 7pm masses rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 7:30. The Saturday choir group rehearses before the 5pm mass at 4 o’clock. Children’s choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoon from 4-5pm in preparation for our 8:45am liturgy. Singing in choir is a wonderful way for your child (age 5 and up) to begin to appreciate the many ways they can be involved and help make our liturgies special. Choir rehearsals begin on Wednesday, Sept. 19. contact Greg at the office with questions.
Parish Directory Available
Believe it or not, there are still some parish directories waiting to be picked up at the parish office. If you had your photo taken last year, please pick up your directory. Either drop by the office during regular office hours or see a staff member after Mass.
