22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time - September 2, 2012

Central to this gospel is the question, “where does the heart lie?” Jesus teaches that observance of the Law and tradition is not an end in itself but an indication of where the heart lies. External actions reveal the internal desire to remain faithful to our covenantal relationship with God. Jesus calls us to the true purpose of the Law: a heart centered on God.Moses' teaching about the wisdom of the Law reminds the people where the heart-of God lies: close to them. The purpose of our observance of the Law is to keep our hearts close to God. Jesus chides the Pharisees and scribes in the gospel for having strayed far from this understanding.' Laws become ends in themselves when we forget their real purpose. It's far easier simply to keep a law than it is to understand its purpose and make its spirit part of our values and life orientation.

Feed Others Of Dartmouth (FOOD)

Next weekend, September 8 & 9, is our monthly committed weekend to provide meals for Feeding Others Of Dartmouth.   A member of Parish Outreach is at the main entrance after the Masses this weekend to guide you in the ways to serve. Our parish continues to accept responsibility to provide meals for the patrons of Margaret House on the second weekend of each month.  Please keep the needs of those who have difficulty providing for themselves foremost in your mind.

Important Date: Sunday September 16

Annual General Meeting of the Parish Council

RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process used when adults wish to be baptized into the Roman Catholic faith. Through this process candidates participate in a period of faith formation and education culminating in the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist – at Easter. At the same time, we welcome those who have been baptized in another Christian faith tradition and wish to join us in communion, as well as those who were baptized as Roman Catholics but were not catechized as children. Sessions will begin in the fall. Please call the office and leave your name.

Development and Peace

Emergency Appeal

The Sahel region of Africa is facing catastrophic food shortages, due to drought.  This region is in the north west of Africa below the Sahara desert.  An estimated 18 .4 million people are affected, and 1 million children have acute malnutrition.  D&P is working with Caritas Internationalis to bring aid.  Donations are needed and the Canadian government  will match all donations until Sept. 30th 2012

Donations may be made directly to D&P at 1 888 664 3387 or by contacting our parish office.

Automated Door Installation

You have noticed that the automated doors have been installed in the doorway near the tabernacle.  Henceforth, parishioners and visitors who struggle  with mobility should find it much easier to enter and exit the church.  Many thanks to those who worked so hard to raise the necessary funds.   $7,941.56 was raised to realize this goal.  Thanks to all who have supported their fundraising activities.

We ask you to reserve the parking spaces near the automated door for those who benefit most by their proximity.
