25th Sunday of Ordinary Time - September 23, 2012
How the disciples continue to misunderstand the deepest truth about what the "Son of Man" is to undergo! While Jesus is speaking of his impending suffering, death, and rising, the disciples are quibbling over "who [is] the greatest" among them. They are brought to silence twice by Jesus because they still cannot accept the true meaning of who Jesus is and his mission. By embracing a child, Jesus reveals, again and concretely, who he is: the One least among us who has come to serve. The "righteous one" who is faithful will suffer at the hands of the wicked. Nonetheless, God will "help" the "just one." God did not save Jesus from suffering and death at the hands of those who rejected his teaching, but God did raise Jesus to new life. God does take care of those who are faithful. Spouses spend all their married lives coming to know one another and building a shared identity. Coming to know, understand, and accept the identity of Jesus also takes a lifetime of learning and commitment. But it grants an eternity of fullness of life.

We wish the Catechetical teachers well as they help form the faith life and spirituality of our younger parish members. We appreciate all they do in their ministry to the youth.
PASTORAL CARE MEETING
Pastoral Care offers us the opportunity to participate in ministry as Christ asks us to do in Matthew’s Gospel, that is, one of the corporal works of mercy - to visit the sick and infirm. Visiting with those who are alone and isolated, sometimes unable to join us for the celebration of Mass, provides assurance of their importance to our community and reminds them that we walk with them in their time of suffering.
There will be a meeting for all parishioners involved in Pastoral Care on Tuesday October 2 at 7pm in the parish office. Those who feel they have a calling to this important ministry are invited and encouraged to attend.
Annual General Meeting of the Parish Council
Last Sunday 40 parishioners gathered for the annual meeting. Reports were given by staff, various committee chairpersons as well as other organizations that function in the parish. Look for a more comprehensive report in an upcoming bulletin.
Change of Sunday Morning Mass Times
Beginning this Sunday morning, Mass will be celebrated at 8:45 and 11:15am.

The study sessions continue this fall. The sessions were initiated by the IMPACT group this summer with the intention to continue. You may already have made contact with Alvaro Ortiz who has made himself available after the Sunday morning Mass to share the vision of these special study sessions. Those of you who attended the summer series will be contacted directly. We ask others among you to consider joining the sessions this fall. The sessions are designed to help us grow in our relationship with Jesus.
Attention Seniors!
The Senior’s Group will gather on Monday October 1 to celebrate Mass at noon followed by a light luncheon, a sing song and other fun stuff in the area behind the tapestry. This is the first gathering for seniors this year and we encourage you to be a part. All seniors are welcome.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word at 8:45am Mass
Program begins this Sunday morning in the room behind the tapestry. Children are invited to that area to celebrate a child appropriate Liturgy of the Word. This is not intended to be part of the Catechetical Program but rather an effort to draw meaning from the readings of the day and present it in a way that children will understand. Thanks to the leaders of this program who bring the Word of God to life for our children!
Lay Liturgical Ministry Schedule
The revised minister’s schedule has been emailed. Hard copies are available in the sacristy. The schedule details assignments for Proclaimers of the Word, Ministers of Holy Communion, Servers at the Altar Table, Mass Coordinators and Children’s Liturgy of the Word Facilitators. It covers the Sunday Masses from today, the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time, through to the 33rd Sunday followed by the Feast of Christ the King on Nov 25, the Four Sundays of Advent and the Feast of the Holy Family on Dec 30. A comprehensive schedule indeed, not to be taken lightly. We ask that all lay ministers stay in tune with it over these upcoming months. All parishioners appreciate the committed service of our lay ministers!
RCIA
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process used when adults wish to be baptized into the Roman Catholic faith. Candidates participate in a period of faith formation and education culminating in Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at Easter. At the same time, we welcome those who have been Baptized in another Christian faith tradition and wish to join us in Communion, as well as those who were Baptized as Roman Catholics but were not catechized as children. Sessions will begin in the fall. Please call the office and leave your name.
