30th Sunday of Ordinary Time - October 28, 2012

Those travelling with Jesus look upon Bartimaeus as an interruption on the journey. Jesus, on the other hand, sees him as the point of the journey. Had some in the crowd succeeded in silencing Bartimaeus, they would have "silenced" a manifestation of why Jesus came: to bring "sight" not only to Bartimaeus but to all. In Jeremiah's prophecy the Lord's deliverance of the people is manifested in gathering "the bind and the lame" - indeed all peoples - and consoling and guiding them. In the Gospel, God's deliverance is manifested in Jesus giving sight to Bartimaeus and, indeed, to all the crowd. When we want something badly enough, we tend not to give up in the face of opposition. In spite of many in the crowd rebuking Bartimaeus, he continued to call out to Jesus for healing, and received what he wanted —and even more.

All Souls’ Day Mass

Friday November 2 at 9am

November is traditionally the month when we remember all the faithful departed.  On November 1 we celebrate All Saints.  That being a Thursday, we will celebrate Mass at the usual noon hour.  Whereas All Souls’ falls on a Friday, we will celebrate that morning at 9am.

It has been our tradition here at St. Peter Parish to gather on another date in November to commemorate all the faithful departed, but especially those who have departed in the past year.  These we remember in a special way.

Special Mass for the Deceased

on Wednesday November 7 at 7pm.

Parishioners are invited to the celebration of the Eucharist when we remember and pray for those who died and were buried from our parish during the past year.  Your presence and prayers are a real support for families that have lost members over the past twelve months.  May they rest in peace!

Memorial Book

The Book of Remembrance has been placed in the sanctuary.  We invite you to add the names of family members and friends who have gone before us.  During the month of November we will pray for them at all Masses.

Pastoral Care Meeting November 6

Pastoral Care gives us the opportunity to participate in Christ's ministry to the sick and infirm. There will be a Pastoral Care meeting held on Tuesday November 6 at 7pm in the parish office. Those currently involved in Pastoral Care and those interested in finding out more are encouraged to attend.

+ November 11 Remembrance Day is a Sunday +

ONE TIME ONLY MASS TIME CHANGE

This year as it happens, Remembrance Day falls on a Sunday.  That morning we will celebrate Mass ONCE ONLY at 9:30am.

Commissioning and Renewal

of Ministers of Holy Communion

to take place at the Liturgies this Saturday and Sunday.  All in the parish are grateful for the commitment made to this ministry by so many faithful parishioners.

+Saturday Mass Time to Change to 4pm+

Starting next Saturday, November 3,

Mass will be celebrated at 4pm

for the duration of the winter months.

Many parishioners find it to be a more convenient time given the early onset of darkness at this time of year.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SADIE!

Sadie Graham to Celebrate 100 Year Birthday

You are invited to the Parish Hall (school gym) next week to wish Sadie a Happy Birthday on

Saturday Nov 3 between the hours of 1 and 3pm

Best wishes only though Sadie does suggest that if you are able you may bring a food donation to support the work of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

 Prayer Line

If you have a friend or family member who is seriously ill or dying, contact the office (466-6183) and leave their name.  Parishioners are ready and willing to take their needs to prayer.

Senior’s Group at St. Peter Parish

Seniors gather on the first Tuesday of each month to celebrate Mass followed by a light lunch and a time of camaraderie.

Their next event will be on Tuesday November 6.

If you have not yet enjoyed this time of fellowship you

should consider being part of the next event.
