32nd Sunday of Ordinary Time - November 11, 2012
What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? He gives us the answer when he contrasts the behavior of the self-important scribes and the rich with the action of a poor and seemingly insignificant widow. Without calculating the cost to herself, the widow gave “everything she had, all she had to live on.” Disciples, too, give all they have without counting the cost, calculating self-gain, or seeking attention. The “whole livelihood” disciples give is their very selves. As stewards of God’s gifts, may we hear the invitation of Jesus today, to be a people of absolute trust in our gracious and compassionate God.
Remembrance Day
Today we remember and prayer for the many whose lives were destroyed by war, not only of the last century but for those involved in the continuing conflicts of this world. Pray for those who lost their lives. May they live eternally with God. Remember those who have served and have returned to us with physical and emotional scars.
Pray for peace and conflict resolution with justice for all.
The St. Vincent de Paul Annual Book Sale
Next Saturday and Sunday (Nov 17 & 18)
Saturday: 9am to 12noon & 5 to 6pm/Sunday: 10am to 1pm
The St. Vincent de Paul Society will hold their annual book sale and welcomes your donations of used books, which you may deliver to the office during regular office hours, or deposit at the main entrance of the church. (no magazines, National Geographic, encyclopedia volumes or Reader’s Digests please)
We really could use your help on Friday from 3 to 7pm to unpack and sort books and on Sunday at 1pm to pack and recycle. This is not heavy work.
Archdiocesan Annual Appeal
We are more than mid-way into the Appeal. This financial campaign benefits both the pastoral work of the archdiocese and our parish. We receive back 20% of all our contributions to the Annual Appeal up to $18,771.82 and then we receive 80% of our contributions. Let us continue to seek God’s guidance as we each consider how to respond to the Appeal, together with other parishes from across our Archdiocese.
The Book of Remembrance
The Book of Remembrance has been placed in the sanctuary. We invite you to add the names of family members and friends who have gone before us. During the month of November we pray for them at all Masses.
