Second Sunday of Ordinary Time - January 20, 2013
Jesus’ epiphany - the revelation of his glory - did not end with the sign he performed but with the belief to which his followers came. Not only does Jesus change water into wine, but he transforms his disciples from being mere companions to becoming those who believe in him. They move from fellowship to the intimacy of belief and their lives will never be the same. He changed them. He will change us. And our lives will never be the same. Isaiah provides us with language to describe believing: “I will not keep silent . . . I will not rest.” He gives us as well language to describe the intimacy of belief: “My delight,” Espoused,” “the LORD delights in you,” “your Builder shall marry you,” “God rejoice in you.” Some changes are self-initiated, for example, we stop smoking, resolve to exercise daily, watch less TV. Other changes are generated by an outside catalyst, such as a natural disaster or the loss of a job because of a bankrupt company. When we open ourselves to God’s actions within us, the most life-changing transformations occur.
coming this LENT…
the FORUM at Saint Peter
for Parish Renewal
The Year of Faith, The New Evangelization, Parish Renewal, etc. We have been hearing these “buzz words” for some time now. The question is, ‘What are we called to do to make them a reality?’ We believe that we are called at this time to bring about a genuine renewal within our parish and beyond, and we have a plan.
On Saturday, March 2, we will gather as a parish for the first of two FORUMS. The objective of the first FORUM is essentially to re-discover who we are as a parish. There are many good things happening in and around our community, and we possess many strengths, but it cannot be denied that we are living Christian life during challenging times for our parish. For many of the faithful, these challenges have been the source of sadness, confusion, even disbelief.
We have invited Dr. David Deane, author and professor at the Atlantic School of Theology, to walk this portion of our road toward renewal with us. Dr. Deane will speak directly to the challenges we face in parish life in this post structural age. He shares our concerns and sees parish communities as the primary site of transformation.
When we gather that day, it will be important to ensure that there are opportunities for discussion and idea sharing. Again, that day the primary goal will be to look inward as parish, and rediscover who we are.
The second FORUM will unfold during the Easter season (date to be announced). At that time we will build on the strength of the first FORUM and explore concrete ways for renewal, rejuvenation and re-growth. There is always more to do as we strive to be faithful to the Gospel mandate of building God’s kingdom in our local area.
We ask you now to mark your calendar and plan to be part of this important development at a sensitive time in the evolution of our parish!

The Sound of Music!
on April 17,18 & 19
and we’re looking for people like you to get involved.

to see what’s up. We’re looking for parishioners to be in the cast or chorus, set stages, make costumes, take part in the band and more. Lots of work. Lots of fun.
The Drama Group has been staging musicals for a decade, this being their tenth year. Tracy Giffin, a parishioner with a background in the dramatic arts, will direct again this year.
Rehearsals will generally happen on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. The band will rehearse on Saturday afternoons.
Questions? Talk to Greg at the keyboards after Mass or contact him at the office.
Catechetical Program
Classes continue this Sunday for Grades Primary to Six

Liturgical Ministry and Recruitment
This Sunday, a member of the Liturgy Committee and two youth who are involved in Liturgical Ministry are visiting children of the Catechetical Program during classes to invite them to become involved in Altar Serving and Children’s Choir. This may be a good time for you to have a conversation with your child about the importance of ministry in the context of our liturgical celebrations. The children were given contact information. Please don’t hesitate to contact the parish office or a member of staff if you have questions.
Funerals
This week we celebrated Funeral Masses for Don Smith,
Lillian Landry and Kevin Dunn. Please keep them and the loved ones they leave behind in your prayer intentions.
Ministry of Hospitality
Several parishioners have expressed interest in taking part in a revitalized ministry of Hospitality. For several years now the ministry has been inactive at most liturgies, though a couple of committed parishioners have continued the task of greeting the faithful. You may have had some thoughts about being involved but as yet have been unwilling to commit?
