Second Sunday of Lent - February 24, 2013

During prayer Jesus’ “face changed.” This phrase is biblical language indicating that Jesus himself changed. The transfiguration is a fleeting glimpse of the glory of his risen life. To come to this glory, however, Jesus could not remain on the mountain, but had to continue his journey to Jerusalem and the Cross. During prayer we, too, encounter God in such a way that we are invited to change. We, too, are emboldened to follow our life journey and embrace the Cross. And we, too, will be glorified. Now and forever. On the mountain of transfiguration the disciples witnessed the glory of Jesus’ identity as the “chosen Son.” We, too, are destined for glory when Christ will “change the body of our humiliation to the body of his glory” (2nd Reading). We often have glimpses of glory: in a remarkable sunset, in the shining face of a delighted child, in the radiant joy of new parents. Like the transfiguration, these glimpses of glory encourage and strengthen us to continue the journey of life toward eternal glory. the FORUM at Saint Peter

for  Parish Renewal

      FORUM 1 …next Saturday March 2

to      bring renewal to our parish and beyond

with    Dr. David Deane

............................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Next Saturday, March 2, we will gather by 9:30am in the church for the first of two FORUMS.  The FORUM that morning will conclude no later than 12:30pm.  The objective of the first FORUM is essentially to re-discover who we are as parish.

The morning will begin with a talk by Dr. David Deane, author and Professor of Theology at the Atlantic School of Theology.

Dr. Deane will expand on the concept of parish.  He will ask, ‘What is a parish?’ and will focus on reminding us of our unique ability to share our gifts while inspiring others.  He will challenge us to be ever more what we are!  That is, a radical and indeed revolutionary presence of God’s love in the world.

We believe that the time is right to enter into this time of self evaluation and consideration of who we are as parish.  For many of the faithful, the challenges faced by our Church and indeed our parish have been the source of great concern and confusion.  As Dr. Deane walks this portion of our road toward renewal with us, he will speak directly to these challenges.  He shares our concerns and sees parish communities as the primary site of transformation in the Church.

After Dr. Deane’s talk and a short break for refreshments, we will gather in smaller groups to discuss the topics raised.  We intend that this will provide an opportunity for each of us to discern our role in parish life, reflect on the gifts we share, and understand better how our actions inspire others.  Again, that day the primary goal will be to look inward as parish, and rediscover who we are while accounting for our strengths.

The second FORUM will unfold during the Easter season.  At that time we will build on the strength of the first FORUM and explore concrete ways for renewal, rejuvenation and re-growth.  There is always more to do as we strive to be faithful to the Gospel mandate of building God’s kingdom in our local area.

Please plan to take part in these important events.  We need your participation.  You are important to this parish.  Planning processes work best when there are many active participants.  Next Saturday.  Hope to see you there.

Child care will be available in the hallway behind the tapestry during the presentation by Dr. Deane.

Development & Peace

our Share Lent Campaign continues this week

Human Dignity, more than ever

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Last week you found a card attached to this bulletin telling how Human Dignity is the right to live on your own land. If you missed it, find a card at one of the entrances to the church.  As well, we distributed the Share Lent calendar, of which more are available at the entrances.

This Sunday is the first Share Lent collection.

Envelopes were included in the regular Sunday collection packages, though as well, they are available at the doorways of the church.

Please pick up the mini-magazine which gives further information on the great work being done by D&P thanks to your support.  Your generosity is a sign of your solidarity with and compassion for the poor in the Global South.

................................................................................................................

Last weekend, at the D&P workshop at St. Paul Church, participants learned about the principles of Catholic Social Teaching as laid out in Papal Encyclicals and letters.  Human dignity, the promotion of peace, solidarity with the poor, social justice and relief from poverty are the basis for all development with peace. Thank you for your generous support.  Your donations are helping many throughout the world achieve peace with dignity.

Marriage Preparation Weekend April 26&27

On April 26&27 our parish will once again host a Marriage
Preparation weekend for couples preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage. Our program has served couples for over a decade.  Its success relies on the support of married couples from our parish. Additional sponsor couples are needed to ensure the program’s continued success. Perhaps you and your spouse would consider sharing your gifts.  The time commitment has low impact in that you would only be required for the weekend of April 26&27. The benefits to the community would be wonderful. If you can offer your time, please contact coordinators Mary Jean or Mike Murphy at 463-4243.
