Palm Sunday -  March 24, 2013

Luke’s Passion account highlights how much Jesus loved life. His struggle to say yes to his Father’s will (“remove this cup from me”) was so intense that he sweat blood. He also intensely loved others and their lives: he healed the man with the severed ear, comforted the women of Jerusalem, forgave his executioners, promised Paradise to the repentant thief. For the sake of others’ life he was willing to give over his own life (“not my will but yours be done”). Jesus’ struggle and self-giving is to be ours. While intensely loving the Life given us, we also are to give it over for others. Isaiah’s prophecy finds its fulfillment in Jesus: it not only describes his suffering but also his concern for others, “sustain[ing] to the weary with a word” of comfort. When we hear the proclamation of the Passion, we are most mindful of all the suffering Jesus endured. Luke reminds us that the passion also proclaims Jesus’ ultimate self-giving ministry for others. the FORUM at Saint Peter

for  Parish Renewal

to   bring renewal to our parish and beyond

Keep an opening on your calendar for Saturday May 11 when we will convene FORUM II.  After the success of FORUM I earlier this month when we gathered to take stock of who we are and to reflect on the great gifts bestowed by God on our community, we keep our eyes fixed on the second stage.  At that time we will come together to strategize on positive ways to strengthen the parish and continue our mission to serve.

Holy Thursday Washing of Feet

Consider being part of this ritual at Mass on Holy Thursday.  At that liturgy Fr. Jim will offer to wash the feet of parishioners and so represent the service and charity of Christ, who came ‘not to be served, but to serve’.  You will be invited at the appropriate time after the homily that evening to come forward and participate.

Flowers to Adorn Our Worship Space

It is fitting that during the Easter Season we adorn our beautiful worship space with flowers.  If you would like to contribute a potted flowering plant, perhaps in memory of a loved one who has gone before us, simply drop it off at the office during regular office hours, or bring it to the church on Holy Saturday between 10am and noon  when folks will be preparing the worship space for the Easter celebrations.  If in memory of a loved one, please ensure that their name is included with the gift of the plant.  Thank you.

We could use your help to decorate the church…

We could use your help for an hour or so on Holy Saturday when folks come together to prepare the church for the Easter celebrations.  Meet at 10am in the church.  One of the big pieces is the placement of the Baptismal Font (temporary) as we do each year.  Other tasks include fabric banner placements, flower arrangements and such. We’d really appreciate your help if you are able.

Development & Peace Share Lent Campaign

Human Dignity, more than ever

As we come to the end of this year’s Share Lent campaign we remember all the projects throughout the world where people are working to improve their lives, bringing justice, peace, health and education with support from Development and Peace.

The good news is that real change is happening.

Last week we met Mr. Mam Sambath, who travelled from Cambodia to tell us about the work his organization Development and Partnership in Action (DPA) is doing with support from D& P, to bring justice, health and education to the most marginalized people of Cambodia. A gentle, dedicated man, he told us that without our support, this work could not continue.

Your support and compassion is changing lives for the better. Thank you

This Sunday is the third Share Lent collection

Please find extra envelopes at the back of the church.
