Home Music & Choir Liturgy Ministries

Saint Peter's is blessed with a strong, committed and enthusiastic Music Ministry. Approximately 50 - 55 people, children and adults, men and women, give many hours in rehearsal to prepare good worship music that helps our Community come together in song, and so enrich our Liturgies. The Music Ministry is in a healthy form. Parishioners especially inclined toward music, and who accept it as a gift from God, see fit to share their talent with the community, and foster good liturgy.

Primarily, our Music Ministry supports the four weekend liturgies: the Masses at 5pm Saturday, and 8:45 and 11:15 a.m., and 7:30pm Sunday. Choir groups are formed for each of these celebrations. Choirs exist to support the liturgy by fostering an atmosphere at worship where all members of the assembly may participate fully. This is what we try to do.

The Music Ministry comes together in good spirit to enhance our special celebrations... during the Advent and Christmas seasons, Lent, the Triduum, and Easter Season, Celebrations of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation, and others.

Our Ministers of Music are pleased to offer their services for funerals, weddings, and are willing to help when Parish Groups organize special services.

Choirs and Mass Times

5pm Saturday - This modest group continues to work for the benefit of our Saturday afternoon liturgy. There are ten members, who rehearse for one hour before the 5pm Mass. They take the opportunity to learn new music, prepare the Responsorial Psalm, and generally prepare for the upcoming liturgy. This group is committed, and blessed with several long-term parishioners.

8:45 Sunday - Our Children's Choir, with the helpful direction of Diane Regan, consistently supports the singing at our Sunday morning early Mass. Several of the older children (ages 12 - 13) prove capable of presenting the Responsorial Psalms from the Ambo (Pulpit).

11:15am Sunday - Adults and youth come together, and with the integral support of Lucille Niven, form a blended choir for this well attended Mass. Though not as large as its former self, this group is an interesting blend of young and not so young, with the support of several musicians.

7:30pm Sunday - Adult and youth ensemble.

Aspects of Music Ministry

Rehearsal sessions - The choir groups each rehearse once a week. Saturday afternoon, Wednesday afternoon after school for children, and on Wednesday evening, adults and youth come together for our main practice of the week.

Musicians - In addition to voices in choir, we have the commitment of instrumentalists to enhance our weekend liturgies - flutes, violins, keyboard, guitar, trumpet, and percussion.

Community Singing - We continue to make it a priority to enable the gathered Community to sing together with the Choir in a prayerful and meaningful intention.

Funerals - Several of our Cantors/Songleaders offer their time and talent when there are Funerals and Memorial Masses for the deceased of the Parish. We do attempt to supply a choir group to help in these situations, but it is dependent during weekdays on the availability of Members who have free weekday time on their hands (read: the retired folk among us).
