Hi Malcolm. As far as I know (and someone please jump in if I'm in
error) mail can only be deleted with the webmail system one screen at a
time.

Mail in your JUNKMAIL and Trash folders on Chebucto's server is
automatically deleted after thirty days, so if you like you can just leave
it alone and it will take care of itself. We may have to set a shorter
time for this mail to be automatically deleted in the future as the
amounts of spam keep increasing (it's gone from 700,000 messages a day in
mid-February to around 1,000,000 messages a day now, with no sign that
this will let up), but for now we're keeping things as they are.

If you want to quickly delete all the mail in your JUNKMAIL
folder, there are two ways to do it. The first is to log into Chebucto's
text service and use PINE. In PINE press l (the letter ell) to see your
mail folders, select your JUNKMAIL folder and hit Enter. When in the
JUNKMAIL folder press these keys: ; a a d

Semi-colon selects messages, the first a says to select all
messages, the second a says to apply a command and the d is for delete,
the command you're applying to all messages. When you quit PINE (q to
quit, y for yes, really quit and y to confirm you want to delete all
messages marked deleted), all your JUNKMAIL will be permanently erased.

You can also set up a mail program such as Mozilla Thunderbird and
use the IMAP mail protocol rather than POP3. IMAP reads the mail right off
the server the same as Webmail and PINE do. You can then browse to your
JUNKMAIL folder on the Chebucto server, press Ctrl and A to select all
messages and hit the delete key to delete them all. Then select your Trash
folder and right click and select Empty Trash. These steps may vary
slightly from mail program to mail program; in this instance I'm saying
how to do it in Thunderbird.
