Friends, I am pleased to announce that the StillWaters Group now has available files (in Rich Text Format accessible to most late model word processors) on a wide variety of topics a sampling of which are itemized below. These files are the result of culling from each day's House of Commons Debates and the Debates of the Senate the exchanges, whether brief statements, questions from question period or longer debates and compiling them in files by topic. Debates on specific bills are compiled in their own files which bring together the debate which may have ranged over many days on each reading in each House. The topic or issue files are, necessarily, never complete. The present compilation runs from September 1998. I have given priority to the most recent debates and work toward earlier ones when Parliament is not in session. The ones I am offering here are available as a beta test project and a community service. The same file may be listed later with additional material added. At a later time I will offer suggestions on how to move through an updated file. The titles listed below are the ones which struck me as likely to be among the more interesting. There are files on as many more topics. (Too much good news at once would not work well.) Files now available include the following topics: Aboriginal Employment Strategies Aboriginal Housing First Nations Land Management Act Mantioba Claims Settlement Act The Nis'ga Treaty (a compendium of short items) Cross Lake First Nation Caldwell First Nation Elimination of Racism Day Youth Crime Act Young Offenders Act -- demands for reform Atlantic Fisheries policy Pacific Fisheries policy Endangered Species Fresh Water Export Nuclear Waste Plutonium Nuclear Weapons Student Debt Poverty Issues Health Issues Employment (and Employment Insurance) Issues Judicial Activism and Parliamentary Supremacy Nunavut Act and Constitution Act Amendment (Judges) Kosov & NATO Please feel free to pass this note along to friends and colleagues in the medium of your choice. Enjoy, Michael Posluns. P.S. I have foregone my usual delight in creating clever titles in favour of following either the ones used in the Debates or a key term denoting subject matter. -- Michael W.
