It might help if this analogy were extended much farther. In terms of crusaders it is, perhaps, not insignificant that the government doing the ethnic cleansing -- always a major goal of crusaders -- calls itself Orthodx Christian while those whom they seek to cleanse from the land are, nominally at least, Muslims. It is, indeed, ironic that for reasons which remain unclear a Western European and North American alliance has chosen to defend the Muslims and to attack the Orthodox. Is does not help to say that Canada is fawning. Canada has fawned most of its existence, either for the U.K. or for the U.S. Did we not do much the same thing for just as foggy reasons in 1914. What would help much more is to understand why all the parties in the House of Commons, including the NDP who used to annually offer motions to reduce Canada's contribution to $1 have spoken in favour of this air farce. Perhaps the religious analogy, prompted by the Crusade reference needs to be much further explored. What are the motives of a party led by Alexa McDonough, a woman who claims to be the intellectual if not the spiritual descendant of Tommy Douglas for rallying around the Liberals. And why have several Tory Senators, not only Doug Roche spoken out against this "touch your toes" posture? Would it be nice if "Science for Peace" could offer the kind of intellectual analysis that attempted to address these questions. I, for one, do not know the answers. It has taken me all this time to creep up to the questions. If anyone out there is willing to seriously speak to these questions I would be deeply indebted for the opportunity of such a dialouge. mp P.S. One place to start is to think deeply about the etymology of "Crusader". It has, I think, to do with carrying the cross, advancing Christianity, and thrusting out the infidels. Does this not describe the conduct of both Milosovic and the NATO alliance. -- Michael W. Posluns, The StillWaters Group, First Nations Relations & Public Policy.
