B. t. K. * SPRAYING OF TREES IN CITY

If YOU DO NOT WANT TREES IN FRONT OF YOUR HOME SPRAYED BECAUSE OF HEALTH
REASONS, PHONE THE CITY AT 490-4894.

Dr. Jeff Scott, Provincial Medical Officer of Health for Nova Scotia,
states, "People with skin conditions, asthma, hay fever, allergies,
chemical sensitivities should try and reduce exposure to the spray."

* The commercial B.t.K spray preparation being used in the Halifax
Regional Municipality contains so-called "Inert Ingredients." This is a
matter of considerable concern. Hidden in the inerts can be highly toxic,
chemically active substances, surfactants, and pesticides removed from the
market because they are too dangerous to be registered for sale. The New
York State Attorney General's Office has stated that "inert" ingredients
can contain some of the most dangerous substances known to man. The
interactions within and between the chemicals in the "Active" and "Inert"
ingredients (synergistic effects) can vastly magnify the toxicity level of
pesticides in any commercial preparation. These interactions are never
tested or assessed when a pesticide formulation is registered for use in
Canadian or U.S. communities.

YOUR LOCAL OFFICIALS DO NOT KNOW THE IDENTITY OF ALL THE INGREDIENTS IN
THE SPRAY THEY HAVE APPROVED FOR USE ON OUR COMMUNITY.
