WHAT: A RALLY AGAINST OVERUSE OF PESTICIDES
WHERE: AT PROVINCE HOUSE
WHEN: FRI.,JUNE 19 AT 9:00 AM
WHY:
In order to have jurisdiction over pesticdes (to make a bylaw), the Halifax
Regional Municipality needS to have a Private Members Bill (No.1) passed
at this sitting of the Provincil Legislature. Unfortunately, there is not
too much interest in this Bill by the Government and without a strong show of
support, it will probably not be brought for 2nd and 3rd readings
before the end of this session AND A BYLAW WILL NOT BE A POSSIBILITY.
Twice before, this legislation was overlooked. If the HRM gets
jurisdiction and passes a bylaw in the HRM, it
will pave the way for all communities to do so. We are looking at a
public dabate at the Municpal level and hopefully a bylaw allowing a safe
area left around those who do not want lawn pesticide drift in their
homes, around parks, schools, wells and waterways.
WHO: ALL PEOPLE CONCERNED ABOUT LAWN PESTICDE USE. Please be there!
We need a large turnout in order to make any difference. Hope you
can come! A Rally, FRIDAY,JUNE 19, 9:00AM in front of Province House in
Halifax.
