Hi Paul and Dan

caught a few minutes of a PBS show on interstates the other night.  The
point was made that after the last major quake that brough down miles of
California interstate the public transport system was flexible enough to
respond, traffic was not total chaos, and they survived.  However, as soon
as the roads were reopenned, ridership on public transport dropped and
interstates were king again.
