The Artists Research Workshop

The Irondale Ensemble Project announces a unique opportunity for artists
to study Irondale's approach to developing new theatre works.

For nearly a decade, the ensemble has been creating original, socialist
oriented theatre works.This theatre has been dedicated to a critical
analysis and artistic interpretation of the root causes of the social
inequities present in contemporary Nova Scotia; to the refinement of an
ensemble vocabulary through the exploration of theatrical forms with a
permanent corps of artists; and to working popularly, advocating on behalf
of culture as a vital social force separate and distinct from economic
domination.

Workshop Content

Our next project is an adaptation of Henich Von Kleist's "Prince Frederich
of Homburg", culminating in a studio workshop presentation in April.

Participating artists will work under the direction of Irondale's
Artistic Director, Choreographer and Designer through a development
process that will explore:

- collective writing techniques, game theatre strategies for rehearsal,
game theatre solutions to acting problems, Irondale' multi-narrative
approach to story telling; plot progression through integration of dance,
movement, music and song;
- political clowning;
- political satire;
- text analysis;
- deconstruction techniques;
- Brecht and estrangement techniques as  an approch to modern audiences;
- Marx and the theatre;
- Theatre of the Oppressed  techniques;
- German Romanticism and the theatre;
- and Nova Scotia's political history.

Workshops will take place weekly (Tues.Weds.& Fri.) from February 1 -
April 30

The fee for the workhop is Pay What You Can.

Interested artists from any discipline should call 429-1370 to request an
interview.
