The Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) is an 11 year-old federal 
partnership initiative that mobilizes Canada's research talent in
the academic, private and public sectors and applies it to the task of
developing the economy and improving the quality of life of Canadians.

A budget of $13 million has been designated to support new networks in four 
research areas that are strategically important to Canada in terms of
economic,
social or environmental benefits. 

Letters of Intent to apply will be received 
up to May 1, 2000 in the following target areas:
- The Automobile of the 21st Century
- Genomics Technologies and Society
- Meeting Environmental Challenges for Clean Water; and
- Early Child Development and its Impact on Society

Eight information sessions will be held for members of the research
community 
and their business and government partners.  Space is limited.  Interested 
individuals or groups are advised to confirm attendance with the NCE contact

person indicated below, as soon as possible.
