Tonight and probably next Tuesday (April 11 & 18) Halifax Regional Council
will be deciding whether to undertake Phase 1 of a feasibility study for
diesel light rail commuter service from Beaverbank to downtown Halifax via
Bedford and Mount Saint Vincent. CN has indicated that it will be
removing one of the two tracks by Sept. 1 unless HRM negotiates with CN by
that date. The second track is a critical element in the proposed light
rail service which could potentially be extended into the downtown core
via a street tramway in a dedicated lane. If you have opinions on this
proposal, you may wish to call your Councillor. For more information or
your Councillor's name & number, call Marcus Garnet, HRM Planning &
Development Services, 490-4481.
