BEACH SWEEP OF MCNABS and LAWLOR ISLANDS
JUNE 4, 2000
(Dartmouth, May 12, 2000) The Friends of McNabs Island Society, a =
non-profit
community group committed to the preservation of McNabs and Lawlor =
Islands for use as
nature park land, will conduct the 18th Beach Sweep of McNabs and =
Lawlor Islands on
Sunday June 4 (rain date June 11th). Since 1991 the Friends of McNabs =
have collected
approximately 6000 bags of trash from McNabs and Lawlor Islands. =20
Beach Sweep volunteers will be departing from Murphy's on the Water =
at Cable
Wharf in Halifax at 10:00 a.m. and return from McNabs Island at 4:30 =
p.m. The boat trip
to McNabs Island is Free for all Beach Sweep volunteers. Boat capacity =
is limited to 190
people and is available on a First Come, First Served basis. This event =
is Co-sponsored
by Parks Canada, Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources, Clean Nova =
Scotia
Foundation and Murphy's on the Water.
Volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather, bring along =
garden or work
gloves, ample drinking water and a lunch.
