The Office of the Federal Minister of Health, The Honourable Allan Rock, is counting the number of calls and e-mails from Canadians disappointed by the failure of Private Member's Bill C-388 to pass second reading in the House of Commons on Thursday (4/13/2000). The Health Minister can be contacted by Telephone: (613) 947-5000, by Fax: (613) 947-4276, and by E-mail: Rock.A@parl.gc.ca Bill C-388 (introduced by Quebec Liberal MP, Marlene Jennings) is a very progressive piece of legislation directed towards protecting the health and well being of Canadian citizens from the unnecessary exposure to cosmetic pesticides in our communities until there is conclusive scientific evidence that they are safe. It is primarily directed at toxic chemical pesticides used by the lawn care industry. All Parties have heard from Canadians all across the nation and appear to be listening to the wishes of everyday citizens, with the exception of the Canadian Alliance Party, which prevented the Bill from passing. The Government has received heavy correspondence requesting that Bill C-388 be converted to a Government Bill and passed. Canadians who are genuinely concerned about reducing their exposure to toxic lawn chemicals and providing a healthy legacy towards a cleaner environment for our children of today and our children of the future are urged to contact the Hon.
