Dear Friends,

As many of you probably know, the situation in Chiapas, Mexico is
getting worse with each passing day. Zapatista rebels have been fighting
with the Mexican government since 1994 when NAFTA crippled the farms of the
indigenous Mexicans who make up most of the population.

As the rich and powerful of Mexico gear up for the July 2nd
elections police and military have pledged to clear "every road and path"
of zapatistas and their supporters. The Zapatistas are a progressive
grass-roots revolutionary group, who want farm land, health care,
education and a future for their people. Because the Zapatisas are not
sympathetic to the goverment , the people of Chiapas are deprived from any
government for much needed infastructure.

STAC (Students Taking Action in Chiapas), a new working group of
The Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group (NSPIRG) will be travelling
to Chiapas on July 23rd to build a school. We are currently looking for
volunteers to join our actions. The cost is $280 US for two weeks in
Mexico, this includes everything except travel costs to Mexico. We are
also looking people to get involved with local actions promoting peace
and unity in Mexico. If you are looking for something fun and exciting to
do this summer then please get involved with this internationalist action.

If this interests you please reply to this message or call Chris Arsenault

The people of Chiapas need us.

A word from our lawyers ...

Don't forget ... COPYRIGHT material, such as newspaper/magazine articles
cannot be posted on sust-mar without the owner's permission. It's against
the law. CROSS-POSTINGS (messages from other lists) are also discouraged.

In either case, why not tell us something about the issue in your own

found, or directions how to join the list it came from?

Takes a few more minutes, but makes for a more interesting sust-mar ... :)
