The Nova Scotia Lighthouse Preservation Society offers the following trip in August: MABOU HARBOUR LIGHTHOUSE AND HENRY ISLAND On the Western Side of Cape Breton Sat. August 12, and Sun. Aug. 13 In partnership with the Henry Island Lighthouse Preservation Society, and the Mabou Harbour Authority. Visit two wonderful western Cape Breton lighthouses, and an offshore island. Mabou Harbour Light, is an 1884 three-story wooden light perched in the scenic harbour of the village of Mabou. Visit it on Saturday. On Sunday, go by boat from Port Hood to Henry Island which is a few miles off the coast. It is covered with spruce woods and has fine views of the Cape Breton shore.This is a rare chance to visit this island, which is owned by NSLPS member Bill Baker. You'll see the magnificent 53 foot high 1902 wooden tower with its vertical red stripes, and visit the oldest surviving keeper's dwelling in Nova Scotia, beautifully restored by Bill Baker. This is a really unusual trip - one that should not be missed. The trip leader is Carrie Beaton of Mabou Lighthouse. You are responsible for getting to Mabou on Saturday (about 4 hours from Halifax) Requires an overnight stay in the Port Hood Area. Sunday's departure from Port Hood at 10:00 AM. Carrie will meet you there. Return to Port Hood about 2:00 PM. Cost: $35. Trip limited to 20 people.
