Last week the Urban Farm Museum Society hosted "Seedy Saturday." It was a wonderful opportunity to pick up seeds for this summer's gardens, and to learn. But if you missed it, you can still get good seeds. Sust-mar's own (!) Marjorie Willison was handing out seed catalogs from Mapple Farms, an outfit in N.B. that has non-hybrid seeds that are bioregional and well-suited to our Maritime climes. To obtain their email seed catalog, send an email to: mailto:wingate@nbnet.nb.ca I have no connection with this business -- and as this email probably attests, extremely little gardening knowledge. However, this does appear to me to be a source of inexpensive and "sustainable" seeds. I welcome comments from more knowledgeable folks (that will be almost everyone!). As an aside, i personally call on gardeners to BOYCOTT Halifax Seed. Halifax Seed fought vigorously AGAINST HRM's anti-pesticide bylaw, and spread misinformation about same.
