Hi everyone,
that time of year is rolling around again when The Nova Scotia Public
Interest Research Group (NSPIRG) is on the look-out for people to sit on
our board of directors for the upcoming year. If you have ideas, energy and
a undeniable craving to be part of a good thing (or know someone who does)
then you should be picking up a nomination form from our office.

Before I explain that process, let me fill you in on what nspirg is if
you're not familiar with us. We are a Dal student society that keeps an eye
on issues in the public interest. We link research on social,
environmental and economic justice with education and action. We try to
bring issues, not in the mainstream, out front so people can dialogue about
them in an informed way.

Some of our past efforts include a look at the corporatization of Dalhousie
University and an indepth look at clearcutting in Nova Scotia. We also hold
regular public debates/forums and have published a directory of resources
for Halifax (the Handy Dandy) and are publishing the Single Mother's
Survival Guide this spring. We also run a weekly film series called Cinema
PIRGatory which shows great documentaries on controversial and timely
issues. We have a lot on our plate.

Back to the board...

Being nominated for the board is easy. Here's what you need to do. You have
to be a full-time Dalhousie University student (we also have space on our
board for two community members). Then you need to get 25 signatures of
other full-time Dalhousie students. Get the nomination form back to us by
March 23 and then you're name will be on the election ballot.

If your wondering what's involved in being on the board here are a few
obligations/responsibilities that come with becoming a board member:

* attend regular bi-weekly meetings (less frequent in the summer)
* make decisions about what nspirg does with its money
* come up with ideas for what projects/research ideas nspirg should be tackling
* help out with some nspirg activities/projects
* maintain a sense of humour

That's about it.

So, if you're still interested drop by our office (room 314 Dal SUB)
sometime between now and March 23 and pick up a nomination form. The
nomination period officially opens on March 7.

Elections will be held on March 29 and 30.

Look forward to meeting you. If you have any questions don't hesitate to
give us a call - 494-6662 or email nspirg@is2.dal.ca

take care,

Linda Pannozzo
