EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, THE NOVA SCOTIA PUBLIC INTEREST RESEARCH GROUP
START DATE: MAY 1, 2001

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

Nspirg is looking for an Executive Director to begin in May, 2001. The
candidate must  be available for a two week training period beginning May
1st.  The rate of pay is $12.80 per hour,  30 hours per week.  The initial
contract is for one year but may be renewed annually for a  maximum of  3
consecutive years.

The position:
The Executive Director is responsible for office administration (including
managing nspirg's finances and conducting various administration duties);
coordinating nspirg's activities; assisting with budget planning, long-term
planning and policy development; recruiting volunteers and overseeing
staff; developing and writing grant and employment proposals, promoting
nspirg publications, networking with other community groups.

What you need:
The successful candidate will have:
- demonstrated an interest in social justice and environmental issues and
possess excellent organizational skills
-excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and
experience in consensus-based decision-making
-demonstrated a good understanding of computers, specifically desk-top
publishing, word processing and internet skills (preferably for Macintosh)
-an ability to manage time effectively and work independently and responsibly

NSPIRG, short for The Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group,  is a
campus-based student - funded organization with links to the broader
community. We focus on environmental and social justice issues and take
active resistance seriously. We currently have eight working groups:
Eco-Action, Economic Justice, Humans Against Homophobia (HAH!),  Animal
Rights Collective of Halifax (ARCH), Womyn's Health Collective, Peace
Action Group and Students Taking Action in Chiapas (STAC). We also have a
volunteer run  Food Co-op, an organic community garden called Seymour Green
and a weekly film series called Cinema PIRGatory.
