This is the second time I've gotten this email.. and hence my second plea
for a second thought on this issue!
Gasoline and Petroleum products are a forty year old resource that we as a
society have become addicted to.
Instead of perpetuating a dependence to this old technology, and hence
continually add cash to the coffers of the Oil Magnates of the world, I
suggest instead we recognise that it is not an easily renewable resource,
and move to something far less expensive and far more ecologically sound.
1. Bike more. Cycling improves your personal health, allows you to save on
gas, AND get rid of those tensions from work without resorting to road
rage. (I cycle an hour each way back and forth to Halifax. I try to go at
least three times a week weather permitting, more if possible.)
2. Lobby the government to give cash back and cash incentives to
alternative energy sources. Don't just let the oil companies get those
perks. Allow new solar home themes (yes many people heat on oil still).
Look at small turbine/wind driven alternative sources.
3. Press the car companies for faster tracking on their promise for 1/2
electric/ 1/2 gasoline cars.
4. Convert your vehicle to natural gas.
5. Do what the couple did from the states who converted their regular
automobile to run on cooking oils. They travelled back and forth across
the
country filling up at McDonald's restaurants, after filtering old fryer
oil. ZERO emissions!!!
6. Cut back on unnecessary trips.
7. Take the bus.
8. Press for more bike paths in your neighbourhood.
9. Sign up with one of your local "rails to trails" organizations and help
connect biking/walking paths all across
this country.
10. PUT IN YOUR OWN SUGGESTION HERE!
If I can come up with almost ten better options than simply trying to
teach
MOBIL, Petro-Can, SHELL, and ESSO etc a lesson ,then I'm certain that
everyone else attached to this email can come up with at least ten better
ideas.
For a country that has developed so much, created so much high technology,
isn't it time we used some of what we've discovered, and made lives easier
for all involved??
Let's stop these kinds of emails that want to perpetuate a problem, and
come up with better solutions and more effective answers!
Just my little rant. This time I'll save this email so I can use it the
next time someone sends me this.
Thanks for listening,
J

Subject: Canadian Economy & Fuel
THE FOLLOWING WAS SENT BY AN ECONOMIST WITHIN THE FUEL INDUSTRY.
ANOTHER ECONOMICS PROFESSOR AT CAL REITERATED THE SAME LAST WEEK. I THINK
IT IS
WORTH TRYING.
We heard today from a man who is very savvy about the economy,
namely, Clark Howard, and he says that the gas prices are going to start
going up again and will be high this summer-$0.82 and up. We need to do
whatever
we can, and do it NOW!!!!
Gasoline Prices
This makes more sense than the don't buy gas on a certain day routine
that
was going around last year Gasoline Prices! Whoever started this has a
good
point. By now, you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $0.65
is
cheap. Me too, as it is now $0.75 for regular unleaded!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to
think that the cost of a LITRE of gas is CHEAP at less than $0.72, we need
to try an aggressive response. With the price of gasoline going up more
each day, we consumers need to take ACTION!
The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we
don't buy it. But, (as the gas companies know full well, and are counting
on), that's not really a practical option since we all have come to rely
on our cars. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act
together.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, don't purchase gasoline
from the two biggest companies, namely PETRO CANADA and ESSO. **** You
see, if they are not selling, they should be inclined, (i.e., "forced"),
to
reduce their prices. And, because of their size, and hence market share,
if
they reduce their prices the other companies will too. (They would HAVE
no choice!). Isn't that a "juicy" prospect? But to have an impact, we
need to reach literally millions of users. But it's do able!
I am sending this note to 32 people. If each of you send it to at
least 10 more ...and those 10 send it to at least 10 more and so on, by
the
time the message reaches the sixth iteration, we will have reached over
one
million consumers.
Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to
you, please pass this message on, or one you compose, to at least 10 more
E-mail addresses.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO BELOW $0.62 - $0.65
AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK!
If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.
