Director, Atlantic Canada Chapter
Sierra Club of Canada

Position Background
The Atlantic Canada Chapter of the Sierra Club of Canada was officially
formed in December 2000.  The Director is responsible for supervising
volunteers and contract staff, organizing demonstrations and press
conferences, as well as fundraising and administration supporting the growth
and development of the Chapter.  The Director is responsible to the Atlantic
Canada Chapter Executive Committee and will take direction on particular
tasks and projects on a bi-weekly basis through E-mail communication and a
weekly in-person meeting with an appointed member of the Executive

Responsibilities:
1)	Fundraising
* Write grant proposals for specific projects
* Assist with two annual fundraising events
* Develop major donors and general capacity building
2)	Membership development and growth
* Coordinate volunteers and recruit new members
* Develop membership database
* Assist with the Annual General Meeting, elections, newsletters and
trainings
3)	Office Administration
* Respond to information requests via phone, email, and fax
* Administrate finances and yearly budget in consultation with the Treasurer
4)	Media and Public Relations
* Write and send out press releases
* Represent the Sierra Club and its conservation policies in media
interviews and public forums
5)	International Relations and Training
* Facilitate communication and conservation partnerships amongst
international organizations
* Organize training workshops to be held in Atlantic Canada
6)	Specific Project Work
* Oil and Gas Public Review
* Environmental Justice and the Sydney Tar Ponds
* Other specific projects as needed

Preferred Qualifications:
* Fundraising and grant-writing experience
* Experience with management of volunteers
* Strong organizational and coordination skills
* Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
* Excellent knowledge of word processing, internet, and spreadsheet
softwares
* Media relations
* Experience with the environmental conservation movement
* Knowledge of the Sierra Club of Canada - Atlantic Canada Chapter an asset
* Bilingualism (French & English) an asset
* BA or BSC in Environmental Studies or a similar program an asset

Salary
* $24,000 / year
