The Wentworth Community Development Council (WCDC) is hosting a presentation
to support and share ideas on sustainable development, conservation and
education for the greater Wentworth community. All Wentworth residents,
landowners and industry representatives are encouraged to attend this
preliminary information session.

The Nova Scotia Nature Trust will be making a presentation at the meeting.
They have been cooperatively working with landowners to protect significant
natural areas, throughout the province. The Nature Trust pursues land
ownership, conservation agreements, and cooperative agreements with
landowners To learn more about the Nova Scotia Nature Trust please go to the
following link;

Our overall goals include the following;
- To increase the level of protected land in the Wentworth area representing
different landscapes, ecosystems, species and genetic variation.
- To promote, at the local level, economic development that is culturally,
socially, and ecologically sustainable.
- To provide support for education, information exchange and research
related to regional issues of conservation and development.
- To help ensure residents have clean and safe drinking water.

As a part of this project, the WCDC is also looking at ways to promote the
natural attributes of the area through continuing trail maintenance and
development. Tourists and residents have enjoyed local fishing holes, the
trails around the Youth Hostel and the High Head/Ski Wentworth area and the
waterfalls (near the Valley Inn) for years. However, as they are mostly
privately owned the WCDC wants to be proactive to ensure they can be enjoyed
by the generations to come.

A project of this size and scope will raise many questions. We will try to
answer questions and concerns relating to feasibility, landowner concerns,
liability, self-sustainability, industry concerns, etc. The WCDC wants all
concerned parties to understand that we wish to work cooperatively with them
to create this incredible legacy.

The meeting will be held at the Monday, May 13th at 7:30PM at the Wentworth
lodge (formerly called Ski Wentworth).
