These signs are springing up and I thought I'd pass on some more detailed
information for anyone who is interested in adding their voice. The website is
http://ns-medicare.tripod.com. There are a number of contacts listed on the
site, although all are in NS. Someone there may have information for other
provinces who want to join in.

The slogan on the signs is "Save Medicare - Keep it Public." There is also
contact information on the signs themselves. The signs are non-partisan.

To get a lawn sign in Halifax, the volunteer sign coordinator is Paul Murphy at
476-2654. Another man helps him with sign deliveries.

There is also a postcard campaign, which was described to me as follows:

"Another portion and the most important of this campaign, are the post cards
to the Prime Minister which we are gathering and sending them to our Mother
Affiliate - the Canada Health Coalition in Ottawa. They are compling all
the postcards and they will be doing an event surrounding giving the
postcards to the Prime Minister on or near June 1st. Along with the
postcards, we are also giving out our health care tabloid to inform and
educate people on the health care issue. We urge communities to take the
postcards and help by distributing them in their neighbour and in their
faith or community organizations. So many postcards can be signed,
collected and returned to us. Since the cards need a stamp, we are asking
people to please fill out and return to us, because we are gathering them to
send together."

Finally, there will be a public demonstration in Halifax on May 15, noon to 1
pm at the Provincial Legislature. I'm told that there will also be church bells
ringing across the province where citizens, unions, organizations and community
groups will be coming together.

The organizers intend to post the May 15 event on their website and also a
poster.

Jan
