Input Sought for McNabs and Lawlor Islands Provincial Park Plans
Department of Natural Resources
August 2, 2002

The Department of Natural Resources is seeking public input on
the draft park management plan for the proposed McNabs and Lawlor
Islands Provincial Park, in Halifax Regional Municipality.

Prepared by department staff and the McNabs and Lawlor Islands
Provincial Park Advisory Committee, the management plan provides
a vision and philosophy that will guide future management
decisions for the park. Before finalizing the plan, the
department is soliciting input from the public and interested
parties.

"This management plan is the first step in ensuring the
responsible care and stewardship of these unique islands and in
developing the park for public enjoyment," said Natural Resources
Minister Tim Olive. "The advisory committee has provided us with
their vision for the future development of the islands, and now
we are inviting the public to share their views and comments with
us."

As part of the public review process for this document, open
houses are being planned for Halifax, Dartmouth and Eastern
Passage in October. These sessions will allow people to discuss
the plan with department staff and members of the advisory
committee. Information on the open houses can be found at
www.gov.ns.ca/natr/parks/mcnabs or by calling the Department of
Natural Resources, at 902-662-3030.

The management plan is available on the department's Web site, at
www.gov.ns.ca/natr/parks/mcnabs . A limited number of copies are
available from the Natural Resources library, located at 1701
Hollis St., 3rd Floor, Halifax.

McNabs and Lawlor islands will be a significant recreational
area in the Halifax Regional Municipality," said Mr. Olive. "As
Minister of Natural Resources, I am pleased that we're moving
forward and working with the public in the process."

Written comments must be submitted by Nov. 15. They should be
sent to: Department of Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation
Division, RR 1, Belmont, B0M 1C0; or by e-mail to Brian Kinsman
at bkinsman@gov.ns.ca .902-662-3030
