Executive Director, Atlantic Canada Chapter, Sierra Club of Canada

The Executive Director serves as the principal permanent staff person 
responsible for supporting the overall growth and development of the 
Chapter. The Executive Director reports to the Executive Committee of the 
Chapter. The Executive Director is responsible for the successful 
implementation and management of policy, programs and finances and works 
with members, staff and volunteers on advocacy, media relations, campaign 
planning, program development, fundraising and supervision of staff and 
contractors.

Responsibilities:

Fundraising—

•Writing grant proposals for specific projects
•Assisting with two annual fundraising events
•Developing major donors and general capacity building

Membership development and growth—

•Recruiting new members
•Developing a membership database
•Formalizing a volunteer structure and coordinating volunteer activities
•Assisting with the Annual General Meeting
•Overseeing the production of a quarterly newsletter
•Overseeing the maintenance of the Chapter website

Chapter Office—

•Responding to information requests via phone,email, and fax
•Coordinating the development and organization of a research library
•Administrating finances and yearly budget in consultation with the 
Treasurer

Media and Public Relations—

•Writing and distributing press releases
•Coordinating letter-writing campaigns
•Representing the Sierra Club of Canada and its conservation policies in 
media interviews and public forums

Training—

•Organizing training workshops for staff and volunteers to be held in 
Atlantic Canada

International, National and Regional Relations—

•Facilitating communication and conservation partnerships between the 
Atlantic Canada Chapter of Sierra Club of Canada and other regional, 
national and international organizations

Preferred Qualifications:

•Knowledge of the policies and positions of Sierra Club of Canada
•Knowledge of environmental issues specific to the Atlantic Canada Chapter
•Fluency in English and French a plus
•Good skills in: fundraising and grant-proposal writing; management of 
volunteers; organization and coordination; writing (press releases, 
articles, etc.); media relations


Salary: $24,000/year
