Pathways for People Active Transportation Tour

Purpose

To raise awareness around active transportation, its benefits and how to 
incorporate it into communities.

Description

A team from the Ecology Action Centre and Youth for Environmental Action, 
funded by the Active Kids/Healthy Kids Strategy through the Nova Scotia 
Sport and Recreation Commission n, will travel to 25 communities in Nova 
Scotia between April and October 2003.  In each community, the team will 
target the public, nonprofit groups, municipal and government 
decision-makers, schools and youth with an active transportation message.

Tour Components

*Public presentation:
-for the general public and interest groups
-provide a presentation on active transportation options and success stories
-facilitate a community vision for active transportation

*Decision-maker meetings:
-meet with municipal planners, engineers, traffic authorities, police, 
recreation departments,  health offices, provincial reps, etc.
-identify success stories in the community and explore potential new projects

  *School and youth meetings:
-meet with student and youth groups and school administration
-discuss a youth vision for active transportation in their community
-generate ideas for action around reaching their vision for active 
transportation

*Toolkit:
-case studies
-best practices guides
-surveys, web sites, etc.
