..........Less PLASTIC,hurray !!................
************************************************

I was overjoyed when the Provincial Council of Nova Scotia Greens voted *NOT*
to put up any signs in this federal election but instead, to run strictly on
issues.

Every 4 years the usage - and wastage - plastic soars in Nova Scotia as the
Old Line Parties - the Liberals, Conservatives and New Democrats, pour the
largest portion of their million dollar plus budgets into plastic signs and
wood supports.

Four weeks later the signs are in the Landfill - the candidate vows never to
run for anything again(!) and besides the name of the riding is changing after
the next redistribution. Someone keeps the wood - for a while - till one day
their spouse quietly puts it out during the spring pickup.

And did I mention the volunteers' unpaid gas bills to drive about putting up
signs or the wear and tear on the cars? Their Policies are Pro-Kyoto but their
Practises are Anti-Kyoto.

The main reason we have so few new parties with new ideas to vote for, is that
signs are a battle that is always won by the riches, oldest parties - able to
spend about $25,000 per federal riding for a fullout sign effort.

By contrast, when the battle is fought over ideas and issues, all parties are
equalizied - a good idea can come from any party - big money, whether from big
corporation or big union, no longer rules the roost.

Ideas, issues, policies, from parties - what a novel thought!

I'm not asking anyone to change the party they support - but when they offer
you a 4 X 4 piece of cor-plast for your lawn - politely but firmly, just say:

%$#@*& - NO -%$)(!+& !!!!!!
