meeting)

Hi Community Minded People in HRM,

A huge thank you to everyone who showed up at the HRM Interim Growth
Controls meeting last night at Halifax West High School. There were many
more supporters of the moratorium than at the first meeting. But there is
still one more meeting to be held in Sackville on Monday (see details
below) and we really need to show HRM and the developers that the people
of HRM want planned, smart growth, that is both environmentally and
economically sustainable. This means getting as many people out to the
meeting on Monday as possible. (The developers will be working hard to do
that.)

For certain, we need more than just labelled "environmentalists" to show
up and have their voices heard. We need the rate payers, homeowners,
neighbourhood, church, health, school, disabilities, recreation and sports
advocates and organizations who believe in planned growth to come out and
show support for the moratorium. Are you part of such a group or do you
know people?

Councillors are influenced by the voices they hear, and right now the
developer's voice is really loud. We need to be even louder to be
heard over the din of their "it's our choice to build wherever and however we
want" argument. It's up to us. What do we want our collective future to
look like?

Besides coming out to Monday's meeting we also encourage people
to express their ideas in writing. Write to HRM at
regplan@halifax.ca and tell them you support the moratorium and planned,
sustainable growth.

If you need a ride on Monday, or if you have a car that you could take
passengers in, please contact EAC at 429-2202.

The third public information meeting on the development moratorium has
been rescheduled for:

Monday, March 1st
7:00 pm
Sackville High School
1 Kingfisher Way
Lower Sackville, NS

Also there will be public hearings in late March. More on that later.

Please go and show your support for sustainable development in the HRM
that is cost effective and space efficient.
