** High Priority **

On January 22, 2004, Halifax Regional Municipality was granted a 90-day
moratorium by the Province on approvals of new large-scale housing
developments in most unserviced areas. Amendments to existing Municipal
Planning Strategies (MPS) are currently being proposed by HRM to
incorporate interim (short term) growth management controls on the
amount and rate of new residential subdivision in the unserviced (no
water and sewer) areas of HRM. These controls would stay in effect
during the period of time required to prepare and adopt a Regional Plan.
At the Regional Planning website
http://www.halifax.ca/regionalplanning/index.html you will find
answers to some of the questions you may have concerning the information
that was considered prior to the Province's approval of this interim
growth management measure and the Municipality's decision to discuss a
further extension of this measure with HRM citizens. You can send your
comments by email to regplan@halifax.ca or by phone message to 490-5857.
Public meetings are also planned (see separate posting).
