SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
The Nova Scotia Coastal Guardian Program, is seeking a person to coordinate the Nova
Scotia Piping
Plover Stewardship Action Project for the Pomquet area for 13 weeks beginning May 25,
2004.
Job responsibilities include:
- Patrolling these beaches while educating the general public about protecting the beach
habitat and
Piping Plover breeding areas;
- Collecting incidental data on Piping Plover behaviours and potential predator instances
and
activities;
- Coordinating Piping Plover volunteer guardian efforts to educate the public on the
beach;
- Reporting Piping Plover disturbance violations to the Department of Natural Resources
conservation
officers when necessary;
- Preparing and presenting educational displays in high visibility areas such as malls,
schools and
community centres on occasion, as well as on beaches; and
- Reporting to the Provincial Coastal Guardian Coordinator on a daily basis.
Skill Requirements:
- Keen interest and enjoyment in working outdoors
- Ability to work independently
- Driver’s license and vehicle access;
- Comfort and ease in talking with people;
- French and English language comprehension and verbal skills;
- Knowledge of excel, email and internet use.
Assets:
- Keen interest and knowledge of conservation issues;
- Knowledge of beach flora and fauna;
- Computer and email or fax machine access.
Application procedures:
- Must be received by May 17, 2003 at 4:00 by email, fax or post.
- Interviews will be conducted May 21, 2004.
- Job begins May 25, 2004.

Rate of Pay:
$8.00 per 35 hours per week for 13 weeks between May 25 and Aug. 28, 2004.
